Job Description
Rossi Group is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join our traffic team. The qualified candidate will serve as Project Manager or Deputy Project Manager on a variety of multimodal transportation and traffic projects on behalf of our clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic. Projects are primarily located in Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.
This is a Non-Exempt; full-time; 40 hours per week; (Monday through Friday) position. This position can report to our Hunt Valley, MD, Dover, DE or Wilmington, DE office locations and offers a flexible work-from-home schedule up to 2 days a week.
The Senior Traffic Engineer position has an anticipated salary range of $44/hr to $65/hr, dependent upon experience, certifications, and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
PE license. (required)
PTOE certification. (preferred)
Minimum of 8 years of related experience, including at least 2 years of team management.
Experience with state and local engineering clients. (e.g., MDOT, DelDOT, PennDOT)
Thorough understanding and experience of MDOT and DelDOT procedures, specifications, and workflow.
Ability to travel to client project sites and offices within the tri-state area of Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. (required)
Valid driver’s license. (required)
Duties and Responsibilities
Apply traffic operations knowledge to support signal timing, ITS design, safety analysis, signal design, and traffic forecasting.
Utilize tools such as Python, R, SQL, and ArcGIS for data-driven decision-making.
Develop dashboards and reports using Tableau, Power BI, and other visualization tools.
Conduct office research, fieldwork, data collection, and data analysis.
Prepare technical reports and construction plans for traffic elements.
Deliver technical documentation, client presentations, and progress reports.
Review project designs for multimodal enhancements, safety, and design guidelines. (MUTCD, AASHTO, NACTO)
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
Supervise and lead technical work performed by project teams of traffic engineers and transportation planners.
Coordinate with other team members and design disciplines.
Deliver high-quality technical consultant services within established schedules and budgets.
Create and update project tasks, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource plan.
Knowledge and Skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting professional documents and formal correspondence.
Proficiency in Vissim, Highway Capacity/Safety Software, BlueBeam, AutoTurn, MicroStation/AutoCAD, Synchro/SimTraffic, and Sidra Intersection.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Self-motivated with the ability to multitask, perform detail-oriented work, and demonstrate effective time management skills.
Excellent organizational and file management skills, particularly with digital records and document tracking systems.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
