Rossi Group conducted a comprehensive Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Gap Analysis for Prince William County, Virginia, focusing on pedestrian and bike gaps within the Small Area Plan (SAP) areas of Gainesville/Route 29, North Woodbridge, and Yorkshire. This project involved close collaboration with the Prince William County Department of Transportation, Planning Office, and Public Schools.
Using aerial and GIS data, the analysis applied priority criteria provided by the County to identify critical routes for future SRTS projects. Key tasks included evaluating gaps against these criteria, identifying priority routes, and developing actionable recommendations for improvements.
Outcomes of the analysis included:
- Identification of 74,500 linear feet of sidewalk gaps, with 38,500 linear feet prioritized for future development.
- Development of cost estimates and recommendations for improvements to guide funding and implementation strategies.
This work equips Prince William County with data-driven insights to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety, improve connectivity, and support active transportation for school communities.
