About the Role:

Rossi Group is seeking a motivated inspector with roadway and structures experience for several projects located in Sussex County, Delaware. The reporting location will be at the required construction jobsite and construction office. Rossi Group has offices in Wilmington and Dover, Delaware.

This position performs construction inspection, monitoring and documentation, materials testing, and oversite. The ideal candidate has two years of experience inspecting construction of roadway and bridge projects, maintenance operations projects, and documentation. The position requires knowledge and performing basic construction principles, practices and methods, construction standards, inspection methods and techniques, basic mathematics used in construction and engineering, such as area calculations, measurements, etc. Knowledge of Temporary Traffic Control Standards, and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and DelDOT construction standards and specifications is a positive attribute 

This is Non-exempt; full-time; 40 hours per week; (Monday through Friday) position. Overtime and nighttime work is anticipated. This position offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, certifications, and abilities. Mileage is paid for jobsite mileage and commute mileage is negotiable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect the contractor’s work according to plans and specifications 
  • Inspect materials used by contractors on-site and document compliance with specifications
  • Read and interpret construction plans for structures, bridges, and roadways with an understanding of construction specifications, engineering tables and reference materials
  • Perform tests for specification compliance
  • Document pay quantities for estimates

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • Valid Delaware Driver’s License 

  • At least 2 years of construction or inspection experience 

  • Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Writing skills and communication with contractors and state employees 
  • SHA 10-hour training 

  • OSHA silica safety training is a plus 

  • NICET Level 1 or 2  

  • Ability to learn new computer skills and data processing procedures 

  • Ability to interpret and analyze contract documents, plans, and specifications 

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations used in civil construction  

  • Ability to maintain records and adapt record systems for computerization 

  • Ability to provide your own transportation 

  • Available for nighttime, evening/weekend hours as needed 

  • Ability to achieve certification in field testing procedures in concrete, soil aggregate, Hot Mix Asphalt, National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certification, American Society for Non-Destructive Testing Level I Certification, or other in-house or state-sponsored certifications.  

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) 
  • Unifier knowledge is a plus

Salary & Benefits:

  • $28/hr. to $33/hr., based on experience and certifications
  • Overtime and Nighttime differential pay

Physical Requirements:

  • Fieldwork in varying weather and terrain conditions
  • Hand-eye coordination for the efficient operation of equipment 
  • Walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 60 lbs
  • Close proximity to traffic on highways
