The Patapsco Regional Greenway (PRG) envisions a 40-mile shared-use trail connecting Sykesville in Carroll County to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Traversing the scenic Patapsco Valley, the trail will link communities including Sykesville, Marriottsville, Woodstock, Daniels, Oella, Ellicott City, Catonsville, Elkridge, Halethorpe, Baltimore Highlands, and Cherry Hill.

Rossi Group partnered with the Baltimore Metropolitan Council (BMC) to develop concept designs for three key sections of the PRG:

  1. Elkridge to Guinness Open Gate Brewery: A two-mile section connecting Historic Elkridge and Patapsco Valley State Park to the brewery, featuring a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Patapsco River to link Howard and Baltimore Counties.
  2. Sykesville to McKeldin Area of Patapsco Valley State Park: A six-mile section including a one-mile shared-use path connecting the Sykesville Historic District to the Freedom Park Trail, as well as a five-mile natural surface single-track connection to the McKeldin Area.
  3. Guinness to Southwest Area Park: A 5.5 mile section consisting of a 10-12 foot wide trail including gravel sections, elevated boardwalk, paved sections, and shared-use path that would connect to the MDOT MTA Patapsco Light Rail Station and Patapsco Avenue.

Rossi Group conducted environmental screenings, evaluated multiple trail alignment alternatives for feasibility, and identified key design details and permitting requirements. Stakeholder, agency, and public engagement were integral to decision-making at critical stages. For each section, Rossi Group developed a 30% design document to guide the project into final design and construction, advancing this transformative vision for regional connectivity and recreation.
