Patapsco Regional Greenway
The Patapsco Regional Greenway (PHG) maps the main alignment of a 40-mile, shared-use trail traveling through the Patapsco Valley from Sykesville in Carroll County to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Once completed, the trail will pass through or near the communities of Sykesville, Marriottsville, Woodstock, Daniels, Oella, Ellicott City, Catonsville, Elkridge, Halethorpe, Baltimore Highlands, and Cherry Hill.
Rossi Group supported the Baltimore Metropolitan Council (BMC) in the development of two sections of the PHG:
-
The approximately two-mile section between Elkridge and the Guinness Open Gate Brewery, connecting the brewery to Historic Elkridge and Patapsco Valley State Park. This section included new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the Patapsco River linking Howard and Baltimore Counties.
-
The approximately six-mile section between Main Street Sykesville and the Patapsco Valley State Park McKeldin Area. This section includes a one-mile shared-use path/and on-road bicycle facility connecting the Sykesville Historic District to the Freedom Park Trail as well as a nearly five-mile natural surface single track connection between Freedom Park Trail and the McKeldin Area.
The team conducted environmental screening and examined multiple trail alignment alternatives for feasibility, exploring the opportunities and challenges of the alignments, identifying design details. This effort included agency, public, and stakeholder engagement at key decision points. For each segment, Rossi Group supported the preparation of a 30% design document that identified permitting requirements and will carry the project into final design and construction.
